SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Facilities - Barrow, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Barrow are programs that are legally allowed to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment facility can get their basic certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab facilities authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the kind of accreditation it has been given.
