SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Cantwell, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Cantwell are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services aside from medicine such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid treatment center can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every three years depending on the kind of certification that was given.
