SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Healy, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to advance the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its obligations is the administering of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Healy are programs which are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also get ancillary services aside from medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was granted.
