SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs - Kivalina, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Kivalina are programs which are legally allowed to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive ancillary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab center can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was given.
