Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Mc Grath, AK.

There are programs offered in or near Mc Grath that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel euphoria. Euphoria can be experienced at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond this and the main treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do deliver a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
