SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Scammon Bay, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Scammon Bay are programs who are officially permitted to give out the medications used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid treatment program can receive initial approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehab programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the type of accreditation it has been given.
