There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Takotna which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is encouraged.
