SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers - Wrangell, AK.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the mental health of the nation. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid treatment programs, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medicine given are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Wrangell are programs that are officially allowed to distribute the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of accreditation that was given.
