Drug and alcohol abuse facilities for Vets are essential for the mental well-being and overall stability of Vets of all branches of the armed forces. Because substance abuse and other mental health disorders are found at above average rates among Veterans, it is important that Veterans get the assistance they need because of such high suicide rates also associated with these disorders with Veterans.

Drug and alcohol abuse facilities for Veterans in Section are available from the VA, with included services such as programs to handle associated problems such as relationship problems, irritability, disturbed sleep, pain, depression, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which most commonly trigger addiction disorders among Vets. Treatment for substance abuse and related disorders among Veterans includes psychotherapies and group and individual therapy which can increase a person's desire to change. Involvement in other support such as AA and other support groups is encouraged. Medications are also used in some instances to help Military Veterans lessen their tobacco, alcohol, and drug use.

Alcohol and drug abuse programs for Vets are offered during the evening and weekend hours, with both outpatient and residential programs available. Facilities that are gender-specific and those for homeless Vets are available in certain areas.
