The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Delaware are programs which are officially permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their initial approval documentation while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is certified, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the kind of accreditation it has been given.
