Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Eudora, AR.

Vivitrol is a drug used to prevent drug or alcohol use and relapse, and is administered expressly for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription medications. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the drug Naltrexone, that is available through a monthly injection. It isn't addictive, and is what is known as an antagonist. When an individual is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would usually be triggered by alcohol or opioids, so when an individual drinks or tries to get high on opioids they basically can't get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that need to be taken before an individual is administered Vivitrol. First off, a person who intends to start Vivitrol needs to have been off of opioids for a minimum of 7-10 days. This is including individuals who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are taking medications like Methadone or Buprenorphine. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been on Methadone for several years, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to go through for at least seven days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These medications must be used in conjunction with a rehab program in Eudora that also offers medical supervision, individual therapy, and group therapy. Talk to your doctor or therapist about how pharmacological tools can help you build the sober life you want.
