Young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 years old are provided drug rehabilitation programs created specifically to meet their needs. The most comprehensive treatment offered to young adults is at an inpatient treatment center in Ajo which offers a wider range of services than outpatient facilities. Substance abuse disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders can be worked on at the same time in drug treatment programs for young adults which have psychologists or therapists on site to handle co-occurring disorders.
Young adults attending rehab programs which specifically treat their age group benefit from having the peer support available and the compassion of rehab staff who are typically trained and experienced at working with young adults.
The length of rehabilitation can vary in young adult treatment programs, and this is often dependent on the individual's progress during the program. The more severe the case is, the longer it may be advised that the young adult continues with treatment. If outpatient rehab is the only treatment option available, this too should be comprehensive enough to meet the client's needs. As an example, there are outpatient programs for young adults which only require the client to attend counseling and therapy a couple of times per week, and there are programs which require daily attendance.
