Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Grand Canyon, AZ.

There are addiction programs available in or near Grand Canyon which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will instead no longer engage in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some clinics do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
