When a person has overcome substance abuse problem, it's not as simple as picking up where you left off. Getting back to a stable and happy life takes time and a great deal of determination. A Halfway House, a.k.a. a Sober Living Facility, is a place where recovering individuals can live in a sober and healthy environment until they can live confidently on their own. Living in a Halfway House may be a requirement of a person's probation or parole for example, or the individual could decide to live in a Halfway House of their own accord after drug or alcohol treatment. In either case, occupants of a Halfway House are sober and striving to do what they need to do to get their lives back on track. This could mean, for example, finishing school, getting employment, etc.
Halfway Houses in Kirkland are run by people who in many instances were once tenants of the house. How long an individual is allowed to remain at the Halfway House can vary, but it's usually anywhere from a month to a couple of years. Occupants are required to submit to drug and alcohol testing prior to entering the house, and this testing will continue intermittently to ensure there isn't any drug use in the house or substance abuse issues that would be more effectively addressed in a drug or alcohol rehabilitation facility.
