Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Facilities - North Rim, AZ.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near North Rim that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will ideally not engage in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the main treatment objective is to handle the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some centers do offer a small amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is encouraged.
