The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the supervision of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation programs in Antioch are programs that are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment program can receive initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification that was given.
