The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of health efforts to advance the mental health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine administered are drugs such as buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Olancha are programs which are officially permitted to distribute the medicines used in MAT as long as they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services aside from medication such as counseling or behavioral therapy.
An opioid treatment facility can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. Likewise, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every three years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was granted.
