The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs who provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab centers in Ontario are programs who are legally allowed to distribute the medications used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary services aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid rehabilitation program can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, however, are required to get their full accreditation in a year. Opioid rehabilitation facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid rehab program is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every three years depending on the kind of certification it has been granted.
