The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the nation. One of its obligations is the supervision of opioid rehab programs, which are centers which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications prescribed are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Scotts Valley are programs that are officially permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also get ancillary benefits aside from medicine like psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid rehab program can get their basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation facility is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification it has been given.
