The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department responsible for efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are programs who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Stockton are programs that are legally allowed to give out the medicines used in MAT being they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid rehabilitation facility can get their initial certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA office. Once an opioid treatment program is approved to operate, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of certification that was granted.
