Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Hudson, CO.

There are programs offered in or near Hudson which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid addicted client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary services, and this is encouraged.
