The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency responsible for health efforts to advance the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the oversight of opioid treatment programs, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are experiencing opioid dependency and addiction. Medicine prescribed are drugs like buprenorphine, methadone, and other drugs that stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent individuals.
