Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Rockfall, CT.

There are programs offered in or near Rockfall that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications that are used in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't experience cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment objective is to treat the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
