Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers - Stafford, CT.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Stafford that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors which cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer engage in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't at the same time making them feel euphoria. Euphoria occurs at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to address the withdrawal symptoms and put an end to the illicit drug use. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
