SAMHSA Certified Opioid Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs - Taconic, CT.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government department in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its duties is the administering of opioid rehabilitation programs, which are centers that offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are experiencing opioid addiction and dependency. Medications administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment centers in Taconic are programs who are legally permitted to dispense the drugs used in MAT as long as they remain certified and always maintain the necessary requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT clients must also receive auxiliary services in addition to medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab facility can receive basic certification while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs authorized by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehab facility is approved to operate, it must be re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of certification it has been granted.
