The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of health efforts to promote the behavioral health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehab programs, which are programs which offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which stop withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent people. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Windham are programs that are legally permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get auxiliary benefits in addition to medication like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehab facility can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment programs accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment center is certified, it must be re-certified each year or every three years contingent upon the kind of certification it has been granted.
