Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers - Bethel, DE.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Bethel that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same neural receptors which make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate dependent client will ideally not engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily regulated and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to handle the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as auxiliary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
