When a person has conquered substance abuse problem, it's not as easy as starting life again where you left off. Restoring a stable and happy life takes time and a great deal of effort. A Halfway House, also known as a Sober Living Facility, is a place where recovering individuals can go where they can live in a sober and positive setting until they are able to live confidently on their own. Living in a Halfway House may be a term of a person's probation for example, or the person might decide to live in a Halfway House of their own accord after drug or alcohol rehab. In either case, occupants of a Halfway House are sober and working towards doing what is necessary to get their lives back on track. This could mean, for example, finishing school, getting employment, etc.
Halfway Houses in Parkland are managed by individuals who in many cases were once residents of the house. The duration a person is permitted to live at the Halfway House will differ, but it's typically anywhere from a month to a couple of years. Residents must undergo alcohol and drug testing before being accepted into the house, and this testing will take place randomly to ensure there is not any substance use in the house or addiction issues that would be more effectively addressed in a drug or alcohol treatment facility.
