The military currently uses a military insurance called Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families receive health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their eligible family members. With Tricare Standard they receive services from any civilian health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which provides access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is available to all active-duty members, retirees, and all eligible family members, and with this they can choose a primary doctor and obtain referrals to organizations that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can obtain drug and alcohol treatment services in The Villages. This includes individual and group therapy including family therapy, detoxification, and other various treatment services. They will require pre-authorization for treatment and there are likely to be some limitations. Military insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient, but stays for detox are restricted to 7 days. Partial hospitalization or impatient treatment following detoxification will only be authorized if it is a Tricare approved facility, and there are time limits as to how long military insurance carriers will be permitted to stay in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is commonly permitted. In additional to this, there are 15 family therapy sessions and 60 group therapy sessions covered per benefit period, which occur on an outpatient basis. Family therapy is covered one after the active military member has completed other treatment services such as inpatient or outpatient treatment.
