Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehab Programs - Tucker, GA.

There are programs offered in or near Tucker which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients are on these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dose which isn't at the same time causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At centers that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are limited beyond managing the medication and the main treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some centers do provide a limited amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary services, and this is encouraged.
