Regular out-patient treatment is mostly a less expensive alternative to more intensive outpatient centers or inpatient rehabilitation, and is the least intense of formal substance abuse treatment available in Waverly Hall. Some people are in rehab for their first time and have chosen regular outpatient because that is all they can afford and time commitment and scheduling because of work, school or other obligations. For many, regular outpatient is a downgrade from treatment in a more intense outpatient center such as a partial hospitalization or in-patient center.
Regular outpatient treatment options have individual and group counseling services occurring once or twice a week. Centers that include a more diverse range of services may include psychotherapies (behavioral therapy) to assist with relapse prevention and dual diagnosis services to help respond to co-occurring addiction and mental health disorders. How long a client stays in treatment can change from client to client, and a client's progress can be assessed from time to time and an extension of treatment can be suggested contingent upon these findings.
In some cases, a regular outpatient rehabilitation program may be lacking in intensity for a person who is facing a severe substance abuse problem and has not gone to treatment previously or has fallen off the wagon following previous outpatient recovery.
