An outpatient drug treatment type referred to as Day Treatment or Partial Hospitalization is said to be the most comprehensive type of outpatient rehab out there. Individuals can return home or to a halfway house every day, but will spend most of their time involved in outpatient treatment services. Day treatment and partial hospitalization outpatient alcohol or drug treatment is ideal for individuals who have recently finished an inpatient rehab, but still need to keep a robust system of support while becoming more comfortable with a sober life. These rehabs also tend to offer a wider spectrum of care that normal outpatient may not provide, including alternative therapies, medication management, and dual-diagnosis treatment.
It is common for individuals in outpatient drug or alcohol treatment or following treatment in outpatient drug treatment to relapse. In these cases inpatient treatment would ideally be the next logical step.
