It is a known fact that clients in rehab for drug and alcohol addiction are more likely to smoke tobacco, 75% in fact. As such few facilities handle the problem as a primary addiction, despite the fact that helping people quit smoking while in rehab is associated with a 25 percent greater chance the client will stay sober from drugs and alcohol. As a result, there are 'smoking not allowed' drug rehab programs in Denmark that enforce a smoking ban and most of them also offer nicotine addiction treatment.
While total smoking bans are not the norm, more and more centers are actually starting to enforce their own bans, but also state and local tobacco-free workplace mandates angle to make rehabs completely smoke-free environments. In doing so, they avoid the need to develop and enforce facility policies that are already legally in place and enforced legally by state and local agencies. Enforcing a ban on smoking may make hesitant potential clients who smoke starting treatment. In the meantime, it will help those who do choose a no smoking alcohol and/or drug addiction rehab program be better able to recover in a completely addiction and drug free environment.
