The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the mental health of the United States. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid treatment facilities, which are centers which provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to individuals who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Medications administered are drugs like methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help curb cravings and withdrawal for opioid addicted clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehab programs in Des Moines are programs which are legally allowed to dispense the medications used in MAT being they maintain their certification and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also receive ancillary services in addition to medication such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.
An opioid treatment center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid rehabilitation programs accredited by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. Likewise, they must register with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is approved to operate, they need to get re-certified every year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation it has been granted.
