The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its duties is the oversight of opioid rehabilitation facilities, which are centers who offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to people who are in the midst of opioid addiction and dependency. Drug given are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs which help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid dependent clients. SAMSHA certified opioid rehabilitation centers in Jamaica are programs that are legally permitted to distribute the drugs used in MAT being they maintain their certification and always maintain the necessary requirements. A requirement that MAT individuals must also receive auxiliary benefits in addition to medicine such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy or counseling.

An opioid rehab center can get their basic approval documentation while working towards becoming fully accredited, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities accredited by SAMSHA need to get licensed also by their own state. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration via a local DEA office. Once an opioid rehabilitation center is certified, they need to get re-certified each year or every 3 years depending on the type of accreditation that was given.
