Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Dekalb, IL.

One of the out-patient rehab options for clients in Dekalb struggling with opioid abuse and addiction is called opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are certified to give certain medications to opioid dependent people, many of which are opioid-based also and are addictive. In low enough amounts however, the client does not feel high and also doesn't have intense cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first medication administered for this sole purpose, but there are alternative options to pick from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to administer the drug, that is taken daily as a pill or liquid. The cost of the drug is about $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid based drug, and is a pill often taken every other day. But different from Methadone which is only be dispensed in structured clinics, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The monthly cost of buprenorphine is around $300 monthly for the generic version of the drug. There is also a type of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a drug which reverses the effects of opiates. Someone consuming this version of the drug, AKA Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken daily, and is priced around $450 monthly. Naltrexone is an additional drug used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. There is an option to take this medication as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, it prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and therefore lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs in the range of $1000 to $1200 monthly.
