Outpatient Methadone Buprenorphine or Vivitrol - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Fairview, IL.

One of the outpatient treatment alternatives for individuals in Fairview struggling with opioid dependence and addiction is opioid maintenance therapy. Some centers and doctors are authorized to administer specific meds to opioid dependent clients, many of which are opioids themselves and are addictive. In low enough doses however, the individual doesn't experience being high and also doesn't have severe cravings and is not in opioid withdrawal. Methadone is the first med administered for this sole purpose, but there are other options currently to select from.

Methadone is an opioid and is meant to be taken at an out-patient clinic licensed to administer the med, that is taken on a daily basis as a pill or liquid. The cost of the drug is approximately $150 per month. Buprenorphine is also an opioid-based drug, and is a pill often taken one day on, one day off. But unlike Methadone that can only be administered in highly well-regulated medical centers, Buprenorphine can be prescribed and dispensed in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around three hundred dollars per month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine containing the drug naloxone, that is a med that blocks the effects of opioids. A person taking this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and is priced approximately $450 per month. Naltrexone is an additional drug taken in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it's an opiate blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this medication as a monthly injection, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents someone from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily shot costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
