There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains the ingredient naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opiates. Someone consuming this formulation, also known as Suboxone, would find it more difficult to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It too is taken on a daily basis, and costs approximately $450 /month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it's an opioid blocker and isn't an opioid. A person has the choice to take this drug as a monthly shot, and that is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from experience high feelings from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 a month.
