Young adults within the ages of 18 and 24 years old have access to drug treatment programs designed specifically to meet their needs. The most comprehensive treatment available for young adults is at an inpatient rehabilitation program in Joy which offers a broader spectrum of recovery services than outpatient programs. Addiction disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders can be addressed concurrently in drug treatment programs for young adults which have psychologists or therapists on staff to manage co-occurring disorders.
Young adults attending treatment programs which specifically treat their age group benefit from having the peer support on hand and the empathy of rehabilitation staff who are typically trained and experienced at treating young adults.
The duration of treatment can vary for young adult treatment facilities, and this is typically determined based off the client's progress throughout the program. The more serious the case is, the longer it will be recommended that the young adult continues with the program. If outpatient rehab is the only option available, this too should be intensive enough to meet the client's needs. For example, there are outpatient programs for young adults which only require the client to attend counseling and therapy 1 or 2 times per week, and there are programs which require daily participation.
