Vivitrol Used in Treatment - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Panama, IL.

Vivitrol is a med used to help prevent drug use and relapse, and is used specifically for alcohol and opioid drugs such as heroin and prescription pain killers. Vivitrol is an extended-release version of the med Naltrexone, which is available via injection once a month. It is not habit forming, and is what is called an antagonist. When someone is adminstered Vivitrol, it cuts off the receptors that would normally be activated by opioids or alcohol, so when an individual takes a drink of alcohol or takes opioids they essentially can't get high or drunk.

There are certain safety measures that should be be taken before an individual begins treatment with Vivitrol. Firstly, an individual who with the intent to start Vivitrol needs to have abstained from opioids for a minimum of seven to ten days. This includes people who are involved in opioid maintenance therapy and are being given drugs such as Buprenorphine or Methadone. For a heroin abuser or a person who has been taking Methadone for a long time, quitting quickly is very difficult, but withdrawal is something they will have to endure for at least 7 days if they want to begin taking Vivitrol.

These drugs must be used in conjunction with an addiction treatment program in Panama that also offers individual therapy, group therapy and medical supervision. Talk to your therapist or doctor about how pharmacological tools can help you maintain and build the drug and alcohol free life you want.
