But different from Methadone that can only be given in highly structured medical centers, Buprenorphine can be and is prescribed and administered in doctor's offices. The price monthly of buprenorphine is around $300 per month for the generic version of the medication. There is also a version of buprenorphine that contains naloxone, which is a med that reverses the effects of opioids. A person consuming this version of the drug, also known as Suboxone, would find it harder to get high from opioids if they relapsed while taking the drug. It is also taken daily, and costs around $450 /month. Naltrexone is another med used in opioid maintenance therapy, but unlike the other medications mentioned here it is an opioid blocker and is not an opioid. There is an option to take this drug as a monthly shot, which is called Vivitrol. As an opioid blocker, the drug prevents a person from feeling high from opioids, and in turn lowers the risk associated with relapse. This daily injection costs anywhere from $1000 to $1200 monthly.
