The armed forces currently uses a military insurance known as Tricare to help veterans, active military members and their families obtain health benefits. There is Tricare Prime, Tricare Standard, and Tricare Extra. Tricare Standard provides benefits for retired military who are 60 or older and their qualified family members. With Tricare Standard they have access to any non-military health care provider that is payable under Tricare, but also pay an annual deductible and coinsurance, along with any out-of-pocket expenses. Tricare Extra is an option available to Tricare Standard beneficiaries which allows access to civilian health care providers within their provider network, with a discounted coinsurance amount. Tricare Prime is offered to all active-duty members, retirees, and all qualified family members, and with this they can select a primary doctor and get referrals to health care services that provide specialty care.
Through TRICARE, members of the military can receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in Bedford. This includes detoxification, individual and group therapy including family therapy, and other various treatment services. They will need pre-authorization for treatment and there will most likely be some limitations. Military insurance covers both inpatient and outpatient, but inpatient services for detox are limited to no more than 7 days. An inpatient or partial hospitalization following detox will only be authorized if it is an approved facility, and there are time restrictions as to how long military insurance carriers are permitted to remain in treatment. A 3-week inpatient stay per benefit period is typically allowed.
