Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs - Converse, IN.

There are recovery programs offered in or near Converse which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are administered in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that make a person feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally no longer engage in drug seeking behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with drug interactions, side effects, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly regulated and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications regularly so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but ideally at a dosage which isn't also causing them to feel euphoria. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more significantly with methadone than buprenorphine. At clinics which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a small amount of counseling and group therapy as supplementary services, and it is recommended and encouraged.
