Treatment clients referred from the court for drug treatment are usually referred because they are being granted a chance to accept treatment rather than face jail time, other charges, fines, etc. Although this is more prevalent with first time offenders, it can occur at any time such as while the person is being held in jail. There are various types of programs that criminal justice clients can be referred to, and this depends on which programs are local to Dale and the type of substance they'll need treatment for.
There are recovery programs that work directly with the courts to administer to this explicit type of clientele, and are usually publicly-funded or are offered at little or no cost to the client. Additionally, there are also private substance abuse rehabilitation programs that may be accepted by the court if there is a specific type of recovery method that the person requires or wants that a different facility can't fulfill. The defendant's attorney can request such options to the judge for acceptance. There are even drug treatment facilities that operate out of the jails themselves, whereas clients are sometimes in a better position for early release or other benefits when enrolling in drug and alcohol rehab services while serving their sentence for a drug offense or a DUI/DWI.
