Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities - Ireland, IN.

There are addiction programs available in or near Ireland which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, controlled medications which are dispensed in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same neural receptors that cause an individual to feel high from heroin or prescription pain killers are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opioid addicted client will instead not become involved in addict behavior and won't experience withdrawal symptoms. There are risks of drug interactions, side effects, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are heavily controlled and can only be dispensed in a clinical setting.

Methadone and buprenorphine clients take these medications daily so they don't experience withdrawal symptoms, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria occurs at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, actual rehabilitation activities and therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment goal is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do provide a limited amount of counseling and therapy as supplementary treatment, and this is recommended and encouraged.
