There are programs available in or near Lebanon that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs that are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist just like heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so therefore an opiate dependent client will ideally not become involved in drug seeking behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even addiction and overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be administered in a clinical setting.
