Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers - Modoc, IN.

There are addiction programs offered in or near Modoc that cater to both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, medications which are dispensed in what is called opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which means the same nerve cell receptors that make a person feel high from morphine or heroin are activated by these two drugs so that an opioid dependent client will ideally no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have cravings and withdrawal. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both buprenorphine and methadone, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients take these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dose which isn't also causing them to feel high. Euphoria is possible at at higher dosages, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs that treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond managing the medication and the primary treatment objective is to manage the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do deliver a small amount of counseling and group therapy as secondary treatment, and it is recommended and encouraged.
