Methadone and Buprenorphine Clients Only - Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Facilities - Taylorsville, IN.

There are substance abuse programs offered in or near Taylorsville which service both methadone and buprenorphine clients only, drugs which are used in what is known as opioid maintenance therapy. Methadone is a full opioid agonist the same as heroin, and buprenorphine is a partial agonist, meaning the same nerve cell receptors that cause an individual to feel high from morphine or heroin are stimulated by these two drugs so that an opiate addicted client will instead no longer become involved in addict behavior and won't have withdrawal symptoms. There are dangers with side effects, drug interactions, and even overdose with both methadone and buprenorphine, which is why they are highly controlled and can only be prescribed in a clinical setting.

Buprenorphine and methadone clients are on these medications daily so they don't experience cravings, withdrawal, etc. but hopefully at a dosage which isn't also making them feel high. Euphoria is possible at a high dosage, more so with methadone than buprenorphine. At programs which treat methadone and buprenorphine clients only, treatment therapies are generally limited beyond this and the primary treatment goal is to address the physical symptoms of their dependence. Some programs do offer a limited amount of counseling and therapy as secondary treatment, and it is encouraged.
