The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, "SAMHSA" for short, is the government agency in charge of efforts to promote the behavioral health of the U.S.. One of its responsibilities is the administering of opioid rehab facilities, which are centers that provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to clients who are in the midst of opioid dependency and addiction. Drug administered are drugs such as methadone, buprenorphine and other drugs that help withdrawal and curb cravings for opioid addicted people. SAMSHA certified opioid treatment facilities in Universal are programs who are officially permitted to give out the drugs used in MAT being they remain certified and continue to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements is that MAT individuals must also get ancillary services in addition to medicine like counseling or behavioral therapy.

An opioid rehabilitation center can get their initial certification while they endeavor to get their full accreditation, but must become fully accredited within a year. Opioid treatment facilities authorized by SAMSHA must be licensed by the state in which they operate. In addition, they need to list themselves with the Drug Enforcement Administration through a local DEA branch. Once an opioid treatment facility is certified, it must be re-certified every year or every 3 years contingent upon the type of accreditation that was given.
