Medicare is a federal program which helps pay for health benefits for people living in the Unites States who are either disabled or 65 years of age or older. For individuals that do have Medicare and need drug or alcohol rehabilitation in Washington, Medicare will cover various rehab programs and recovery services. Medicare consists of different "Parts", with Parts A-D covering different forms of treatment.

Part A (Insurance for Hospital Stays) - Medicare Part A pays for inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and up to 60 days in treatment without a co-pay but individuals will be required to pay a deductible. Medicare only pays for 190 days of inpatient care total, this applies to the individual's lifetime.

Part B (Medical Insurance) ? Medicare Part B covers up to 80% of the costs for outpatient substance abuse treatment. This includes outpatient services, therapy/counseling, treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders such as depression or anxiety and medications dispensed by clinics. It also covers professional intervention services.

Part C (Medicare-approved Private Insurance) Medicare Part D is an alternative for clients who want additional health insurance apart from Medicare Parts A, B, and D. Individuals who have Part C may have more insurance benefits available to them, but out-of-pocket costs and coverage is different and may be more expensive.

Part D (Prescription Insurance) Medicare Part D pays for drug and alcohol addiction medications. Including medications needed for drug and alcohol withdrawal as well as medications required for maintenance therapy such as methadone or buprenorphine.
